Class Levels at Horizon Pole And Aerial Arts
Strap Work
Basic static poses using a single strap or rope attachment can sometimes be introduced at a confident beginner or elementary level, working extensively in, through or above the strap requires specific skills.
Why are strap poses with Lyra classified as Intermediate to Advanced level skill?
When working above the Lyra you are further from the ground or crash mat. The Lyra can become unstable. It tends to shift under your weight, movement and is effected by your spin. Straps can slide and the hoop can tilt. The base of your Lyra can be difficult to navigate to. Straps can pinch and cinch into you. It takes time to build hoop awareness, upper body and grip strength to work within the straps.
Intermediate/Advanced Strap Poses
Prerequisites:
Students need to be able to confidently invert both under and on top of thee hoop bar before attempting strap work.
Upper Body Strength:
Top Strap demands advanced shoulder stability, grip strength and active engagement unlike standard sitting or basic under the hoop beginner shapes.
Complex Transitions:
Moving in and out of the strap often involves dynamic rolls, drops or single arm hangs that build upon solid fundamental techniques.
